Start with the ceremony focal point
Almost every cultural wedding has one central piece the ceremony is built around. It might be an arch, a draped backdrop, a stage or a seated platform for the couple. This is where most of your photos happen, so it's worth getting right first.
A draped backdrop with an arch is the most flexible starting point. You can dress it up with florals, fabric in your colours, or greenery, and it suits a wide range of traditions. Our cultural wedding package is built around a rattan arch with drape fabric, peacock chairs and table styling included. If you want to see the full range first, browse our backdrops and arches.
Match the decor to your tradition
Every culture brings its own focal pieces and colours. These are some of the elements couples ask us for most often. Bring reference photos and we'll work out what suits your venue and budget.
- South Asian weddings: a mandap or seated stage, bright drape fabric, floral garlands and low seating for the couple.
- African and Caribbean weddings: bold colour, patterned fabric, traditional textiles and statement seating.
- Pacific Islander weddings: natural textures, greenery, woven materials and tropical florals.
- Middle Eastern weddings: an ornate couple's seat, candle displays and gold detailing.
You don't have to fit a template. Most couples mix elements from their heritage with a look they've saved on Instagram, and we build the setup around that.
Seating that makes a statement
Cultural weddings often put the couple front and centre, so the chairs matter. A pair of rattan peacock chairs is a popular choice for the couple's seat. They photograph well and suit boho, garden and traditional themes. See our peacock chair hire.
For guest seating, gold or white Tiffany chairs keep the look consistent without competing with the focal point. You can compare options on our chairs and tables page.
Style the reception tables
Cultural receptions tend to be large and food-focused, often with long banquet tables or big rounds. The table setting is what guests look at for hours, so it pays to style it properly. Charger plates, runners, napkins and centrepieces lift a plain table without much cost per head.
If you'd rather not piece it together yourself, our table styling service lets you build a full tablescape and we price it per head with delivery and setup included.
Plan around your guest count
This is where cultural weddings differ most from a standard Melbourne wedding. Guest lists of 150 to 300 are common, and that changes everything about the decor plan.
More guests means more chairs, more tables and more table settings, so the budget scales with the headcount. It also means you need to book earlier, because hire companies only hold so much stock of any one chair or plate. If your wedding is large, talk to us early so we can confirm we have the numbers for your date.
Book early and sort the logistics
Elaborate setups take longer to install, so your venue needs to allow enough access time before the ceremony. Check three things with your venue before you book decor:
- How early can the stylist get in to set up?
- Is there a loading area, and are there stairs or a lift?
- When does everything have to be packed down and out?
We deliver and set up across Greater Melbourne. Check our service areas for your suburb, and read the process to see how a booking runs from first enquiry to pack-down.
Work with a stylist who listens
The decor for a cultural wedding carries family expectations, so it helps to work with someone who asks questions rather than pushing a fixed package. Tell us the traditions that matter, share your reference photos, and we'll adapt. We can swap colours, add pieces or build something custom around a package you've seen.
Take a look at our hire packages for a starting point, or send us your details and we'll put together a plan for your day.
